Objective: To obtain a varied collection of resources for your Social Studies files.

Materials: Brochures, websites, trade books, maps, lesson plans, field trip information, etc. that will assist in developing your Social Studies curriculum. File box or accordian file. A large binder could be used if you didn’t have many books.

Procedure: Check out the internet, phone book, local establishments, etc. to collect information that will enhance your Social Studies curriculum. Make phone calls or write letters, if necessary.

Include the topics of global education (neighborhoods, communities, govt., maps/globes, etc.), multicultural education, environmental education, law-related education (fairness, leadership, responsibility, authority, etc.), gender equity (women’s issues, women from history), character/values (community buildingt, Tribes), current events, history. Make sure you have at least 5 items for each topic. Please note that a page of websites counts as one item.

Evaluation: The organization of this file should make sense to you, so you will use it in the future. It should be complete, neat, and have the most accurate information you can find.
